Our Beliefs

The following are our essential beliefs; we invite you to explore these statements of faith and join us in our pursuit of echoing Jesus everyday through practice, discipline and relationship.

  • The Bible

We believe in the divine inspiration of the Bible; that it is the true, inerrant, inspired word of God. It is a compilation of 66 books, written by more than 40 authors, over the span of more than 1,500 years, across 3 different continents. Despite its diverse authorship and genres of literacy, the Bible maintains thematic and theological coherence of the creation, fall and redemption of humanity through Jesus Christ. We believe that the Bible is our standard for life, and its truth, integrity, and relevance is of utmost importance.
    2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:105; Hebrews 4:12; John 5:39; Psalm 19:7-14

  • The Trinity

We believe in the Trinity, which is the doctrine that God is one, eternally existing in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are all uniquely and fully God, yet each distinct from the other. Though difficult to explain and comprehend, the clearest example is a mathematical analogy that God is best described through multiplication as opposed to addition. Rather than thinking of the Trinity as 1 + 1 + 1 = 3, we better understand Him as 1 x 1 x 1 = 1. By embracing the Trinity, we can have a deeper relationship with the Lord and better understand His will for our lives.

    Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:18-20; Deuteronomy 6:4; John 1:1; Genesis 1:26; John 14; Colossians 1:15

  • The Father

We believe the Father is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He loves, guides, and provides for humanity, just as a father would for his children. He is holy, perfect and righteous;all- powerful, all knowing and ever present. From creation to redemption, the Father has completed, and is completing, His work through the Son and the Holy Spirit.

    Genesis 1:1; 1 John 4:7-12; 1 Timothy 6:15-16; Job 38-39; Exodus 3

  • The Son

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son who represents God incarnate, sent to us to do what we could never do ourselves. Jesus is God in the flesh; if you want to know what God is like, look at the person of Jesus. He lived a perfect life and it is through His sacrifice alone that the penalty we deserve for our sins can be paid. Jesus willingly went to the cross and on the third day in the grave He rose from the dead, conquering both sin and death. Through this act He has offered humanity reconciliation with God, freely giving eternal life to anyone who will trust in Him.

    Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-23; John 1:14; Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 53

  • The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who is the presence and power of God at work in the world and in the lives of believers; sent to guide, empower, and comfort those who will follow the life and teachings of Jesus, after He rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit is the unifying power between God and humanity. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin, comforts us with truth, and leads us to serve and accomplish God's will and purpose in and through our lives.

    John 14:26, 16:7-11; Genesis 1:2; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 2:12-15

  • The Church

We believe Jesus has commissioned us all to share with the world the Good News of the gospel that Jesus saves. Those who say “yes” to following Jesus are the true family of God, the Church. The number one thing Jesus said He wants His followers to be known for is our love; the kind of love that cares more for others than for ourselves; the kind of love that sacrifices, gives and serves; the kind of love that Jesus modeled. As the church, we want to echo the life of Jesus to the world, and we are never more like Jesus than when we give and when we serve.

    Matthew 28:18-20; John 13:34-35; Philippians 2:1-4; Ephesians 5:25-32; Hebrews 10:23-25

  • Humanity

We believe in His image, God uniquely created man. Every single person on Earth is someone that God fully loves and fully values. The reality though, because of our sin, is that all of humanity has been separated from a relationship with God, and He is on a mission to restore and transform what has been broken to be redeemed through the work of the Holy Spirit.

    Genesis 1:26-27; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 3:23

  • Salvation

We believe, out of love, God stepped into our place through Jesus Christ and endured His own judgment for sin on our behalf. Through Jesus' death and resurrection, sin was exposed and defeated once and for all. By faith alone we are reconciled to God and He begins the process of transforming our lives into what He meant for us all along, a relationship with Him. Salvation is not something we earn, it is a free gift of God for those who trust in Him, being rescued from the eternal consequences of our sin in addition to being transformed in the here and now.

    John 14:6; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:29; Genesis 3:15; Genesis 22:13-14

  • Baptism

We believe in the importance and practice of full immersion baptism. This discipline symbolizes a believer's commitment to Jesus and His teachings, and is an outward expression of publicly confessing our faith in Him. We believe that baptism is essential to Christian discipleship, and by celebrating baptism, we are proclaiming our faith in Jesus and our desire to serve Him and others.
    Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4; 1 Peter 3:21

  • Prayer

We believe in the power of prayer, both individually and communally. Prayer is an essential part of a Christian life and is used not merely as a ritualistic practice, but a means to a relationship with God. Through prayer, we are practicing our privilege to draw closer to the Father, become more like the Son, and dwell with the Holy Spirit. When we pray, we open ourselves up to God and He will answer us in His own way and in His own time.
    Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; James 5:16; Mark 11:24

  • Marriage & Sexuality

We believe we are all loved by God, broken by sin, and in need of the grace of Jesus in our lives. Made in the image of God, people were created with equal intrinsic value and two distinct biological sexes, male and female. God designed marriage to be a union between one male and one female, and sex is to take place within the context of marriage. Even if our personal desires may differ, we choose to submit to the wisdom of God’s design.

    Genesis 1:26, 2:25; Psalms 139:13-14; Matthew 19:4-5; Ephesians 5:21-33

  • The End

We believe the story of the Bible is presented as a beginning, middle, and new beginning narrative. This life is all about preparing for the next. One day, whenever God sees fit, Jesus will return, permanently end sin and death, and usher in an eternal existence for He and His church to live together. Although nobody knows when this end will come, we do know that life is short and our end is coming soon. In the end, those who have trusted in the sacrifice of Jesus to pay the penalty for their sins will spend eternity with Him; those who trusted in their own efforts will spend eternity separated from God. Until that day comes, our primary mission is to help people echo the life of Jesus in their everyday lives.

    Matthew 24:36-44; Revelation 21-22; James 4:13-14; Isaiah 65:17-18; Matthew 25:31-46
